Shibboleth consulting on future funding models
The Shibboleth Consortium is consulting on a fee model that will allow organizations to either join the Shibboleth Consortium OR seamlessly donate to the Shibboleth project in the future. The Shibboleth project is committed to remaining open source and fees and donations will support this open ethos. These plans have not been finalised and the Consortium is seeking feedback from stakeholders within the community as to the proposals.
Details of the fee consultation can be found on the Shibboleth wiki.
Changing Nature of Federations
Nate Klingenstein was invited to speak at REFEDS BOF, APAN33 on his experiences of deploying Shibboleth internationally. Nate is well known for his work supporting emerging Asian federations, and has been involved in supporting the Gakunin and CARSI federations.
Nate has also spent considerable time working in the US through his work for InCommon, and was asked to reflect on the differences between deployments. His presentation draws out some differences in starting point and drivers, but also many similarities and calls on federations to work together to provide a truly standardised experience.
